Thousands of low-income families in Minnesota receive help from community action agencies every year. The non-profit organizations administer a large number of resources and assistance programs. They focus on the unemployed, the working poor, seniors, and individuals and families who are working through hardships.
Services administered will vary by location. Each agency specializes in some centers can provide emergency grants, known as economic bridging’, that pay for basic needs, such as energy bills and rent. Almost all non-profits have some form of job training or employment programs for individuals. These agencies also offer the assistance of case managers who help families work toward financial independence and self-sufficiency.
When you contact one of these agencies, if they are not in a position to help you and your situation, they may refer you to another agency that can.
