Housing Assistance – Homeless Services

Hennepin County  Homeless Assistance supports the homeless in Minneapolis. They also provide short term financial help to tenants at risk for eviction, including emergency rent money and other services.
The following list includes agencies and charities that provide temporary housing for the homeless individuals and families. They can also help coordinate short-term financial assistance, storage costs, placement in Section 8 housing, and assistance with rent and rental deposits. It is best to call first to learn times and procedures.

The mission of St. Stephen’s is ending homelessness. They provide a range of practical programs including street, outreach, shelter, and housing. This includes two printed handbooks, “Minneapolis Handbook of the Streets” and “St. Paul Handbook of the Streets”.

The charity organization will provide short term lodging and also work with clients on obtaining self-sufficiency and stability. The end goal is to help the individual find employment and move into stable, permanent housing.

Apple Valley This program provides support to those who are experiencing homelessness and need access to computers, phones, printers, social workers, addiction support, veteran services, pet care, laundry, showers, haircuts, and much more. This program is also a support to the overnight emergency shelter so that guests have somewhere to go during the day. The hours are Monday-Friday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Youth experiencing homelessness can be connected to The Link by calling the Housing Crisis Line (651) 554-5751 and selecting the youth option. Youth can also stop by without appointment at the C.O.R.E. drop-in center Monday – Friday 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM at Grace Lutheran.

Dakota Crisis Line - (651) 554-5751

This is the main number to call for people experiencing homelessness and housing crisis in Dakota County. Staff refer to a variety of services including the homeless prevention, shelter, and intervention resources. They also provide info on Dakota Woodlands Shelter for families and adult women.

Homeless Street Outreach - Ally Outreach Services - (612) 875-9683.

Ally’s Outreach team should be contacted when someone is experiencing homelessness and is unsheltered (outside, vehicles, transit station, etc.). Ally is contracted by Dakota County to provide the homeless outreach services.
