Some charities and agencies can provide cars for finding a job and going to work. These can be short-term loaners or long-term grants. Low interest loans are also available through some agencies.

1-800-Charity Cars

A national charity organization that provides free vehicles to low-income individuals and families, and people with special needs and in special transitional situations. Military veterans may also qualify.

Working Cars for Working People

These programs encourage car ownership. They include a matched savings account, where the agency matches funds with what the individual is able to save himself, low interest rate auto loans, especially for people with poor or no credit, and “gently” used cars that are donated for free. www.workingcarsforworkingfamilies.org

Over 150 charities, non-profit agencies, churches, and government organizations have joined together to form a program known as Opportunity Cars. The charity program helps people in need by offering free or discounted cars, low interest loans so people can.buy a car, or matching grants to help save for a car.

United Methodist Church Car Ministry

Hundreds of churches and religious organizations partner with UMC. They arrange for free used cars and car repairs given to the working poor, immigrants, and people seeking to exit poverty. Various other financial aid programs and services are also available. Contact a Methodist ministry in your area for more details.

The WGT program receives donated vehicles from the community, reconditions them and sells them to people receiving government or public assistance from MFIP (MN Family Investment Program).

This program provides zero percent interest loans for car repairs or purchase. The total value of the loans for either a vehicle purchase are maximized up to $4,000 or a maximum loan of up to $750 for vehicle repair.
