Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program

Minnesota offers low-income residents the federal government funded Section 8 housing Choice Voucher program. Below you will find contact information on the agencies and organizations in the Twin Cities area where you can apply for Section 8 rent help.

Section 8 in Minnesota will limit the amount of income that applicants need to pay towards their rent at 30%. Money may be available to pay for security deposits or other housing costs. Be advised that there is a waiting list.

Housing Link was established as a result of the 1995 Hollman v Cisneros consent decree, which sought improved housing conditions and greater locational choice for families participating in the Section 8 voucher and public housing programs. Housing Link was organized in 1997 as a 501(c)3 organization to meet this need,began providing vacancy information as well as training and support to housing service agencies. Since that time, Housing Link has become Minnesota’s primary source for affordable housing-related openings, data, information, and resources.
